8 Year Sabbatical ......

Been a while since I posted..... This pic was taken in 2008 in the Ouray, CO, area..... a year into my V-Strom ownership on my 2007 DL650 that I put 50,000 miles on.

I am posting as I am thinking really hard about returning to the fold. From 2009 until today, 10 years, I have run through KTM's and BMW's.... thinking that those two brands were the best of the best in the Adventure World. I have great experiences on my 950 Adv-S and my BMW 1200GS, but everyone was right.... Those two brands are maintenance heavily and they become bikes you can't trust on long trips.

I just purchased a Kawasaki Versys-X 300 for the wife, a brand new bike with shine and polish. .... and I am bit jealous. It's the first bike I have purchased from the Rising Sun since my '07 WeeStrom. My GS is having a plethora of electrical Grimlins..... The KTM 950 ADV is a phenomenal bike, but it is miserable at crunching highway miles and I don't trust it 500 miles from home. The fit, finish and tightness of the X300 just got me to wanting another Vstrom to ride with my wife.

I'm thinking of selling the GS, my Honda 650L and my WR426.... walking into a Suzuki dealer and purchasing a brand new 1000XT, maybe an 18 left-over for a great price.

I'll start reading all the threads, but I want a liter of power and I want spoked wheels.

Have great memories of the WeeStrom!

Yah, come on back. Post more pictures of scary places I would never want to be.
That goat path looks considerably less than inviting!
I've heard of baby head trails but never envisioned then on a slant.

Welcome back, great perspective on those other bikes, Iíve always liked the KTMís but never owned one.
Score you a nice DL1000 and make some more good memories riding reliable machines with the wifey! When you look at the big picture the Vstrom is a great value for what you get.

Well.... My decision didn't end up being what I thought.....

I learned that my local shop had some great prices on 1k Stroms, so I headed down there to make the commitment.

Problem was, they actually had four different bikes and brands on crazy discounted prices. After some quick research and experience.... I opted for a Honda. I didn't know much about the bike, but the more I ride it and study on it, the more I love it. I like this bike far better than my 1200GS.

Honda VFR1200X

So.... I guess I will just have to settle for all the fond memories I have in the past regarding Vstroms and StromTrooper.

Well at least you got the powa'! And the beautiful fit-n-finish. I personally wouldn't take that on the goat path in the San Juan's though. Nice bike, great color! The only thing I'd want different is cast wheels; I view the bike as a tourer.

Nice! I sat on a Red VFR 1200x a few months ago in the local dealer and thought ďIf I didnít already have a V2 that I like, this is what I would getĒ great looking bike imo. Congrats and good luck with it. Check back and let us know your thoughts about it once you get some time in.
Iím sure ur still welcome here if you decide to hang around from time to time.

Beauty!! This bike is not listed on the Honda Canada site. Is it only available in the US?

San Juan work will be done with my KTM 950, which I don't plan to part with..... unless the new KTM 790 or 700 Tenere catch my attention in the next year.

Even on mild dirt roads, with a loaded bike, I have bent cast rims.... four of them on a Vstrom. Laced rims are simply so much stronger and I do plan to do some light dirt riding with this bike. (Although Imogene pass won't be attempted.) I love the look of the laced rims on this bike and that is takes standard adventure tires: 19" & 17".

Yeah.... the 950 will take care of me serious off-road adventure riding.....
