"upgrade" DL650 with parts from DL1000?

I've been looking around ebay at some replacement parts for things to dress up my Strom. I have 1st gen DL650A and I am noticing some of the parts for the DL1000 are a little more refined. it appears that some parts that are aluminum on the DL1k are steel on the 650, like the passenger peg brackets, pegs, etc. I understand that on a cheaper bike, they probably put cheaper parts on. But, what of the parts are compatible? Any ideas?

The seat, it's about an inch wider on the 1000.

I've always wondered about the forks. The 1000 has a cartridge fork, is it a simple bolt on? Is the fork that much better to be worth while? I haven't heard of this as being a popular upgrade which may mean something, or 1000 forks aren't easy to find.

They may be cartridge forks, but Vee forks don't really work any better than Wee forks. The Vee cartridges can be improved to a greater extent than the Wee dampers though. However, they aren't simple bolt-ons as the axle size is different and the Wee has the speedo sensor on the front while the Wee doesn't. The passenger peg brackets do simply bolt on though. See What parts can be swapped between 2004-2011 DL650s and 2002-2012 DL1000s! for other stuff.
madstrom, om28 and OCADVR like this.

Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. I didn't quite make it to 17,000 miles on the 2012 DL650A.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 DL1000s. Vee2=2014-2016 DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 DL650s. Glee = 2012-2016 DL650s
