Temperature's Dropping - Who's Still Riding, North of the 49th

Hey guys. Not many bikes left on the road, and now I'm getting funny looks from the cagers!
I'm still riding about 40 kms to work each day, unless it's icy.
So, chime in if you're still on two wheels and let us know how long or how far and how often !!

Down here at the 42nd, I climbed aboard after work last week while an odd white powder fell from the sky and everything everywhere turned slippery. It did not accumulate, but everything was slick and made for a chancy ride home, about 25kms. What fun. What adventure. Bless the Shinkos.

I am away for work right now but once I'm back I'll ride right up until the snow tire laws take effect on Dec 15th or too much ice.

Not very far about 20 kms to work each day (that takes 40 min in traffic) and maybe weekend rides.

I was riding in Victoria while visiting at mom's place last week, but I usually get away with pretty well year-round riding on southern Vancouver Island. Always bring a bike down for a Christmas ride with the Bro.

Back home in the mountains of SE BC, I tend to sneak in rides in November, and this week should be staying warm enough for a few more. Dec-Feb get's shut down (as much due to snow and temp as road salt and gravel), but late March and April can be fine.

Here in the rocky mountains, you can find pockets of winter weather and ice on the roads in all but maybe two months of the year, so you just learn to recognize and deal with it. It's fun and tweaks your skills as long as you aren't stuck in an ice storm. :-)

I am at 43 degrees north and ride whenever ice/snow free. Like to warm it up, charge the battery etc. I used to ride a Piaggio BV250 all winter. With right gear it is sweet and warm. Do get funny looks though. The scooter dumped radiator output right on feet. The wee does not have that feature.

And this is why I didn't get into motorcycles until I moved to southern California for the first time ( 2008 ).

My hometown isn't a great place for motorcycles. Snowmobiles, on the other hand....

Tucked 3 of the bikes away today but the CBF is still on the road. Local rides to the Forks ( about 1/2 hour ) ..have heated gloves and inner soles - layers otherwise.

Wee is better in this weather, heated grips, better weather coverage but not insured at the moment and the CBF has new sticky Metz...it'll do.

No one around here!

I put my Wee away just before Halloween! Earliest date since I bought it in '12. No way to ride on two wheels here in Winterpeg. Used to be a local who would ride his Ural with sidecar and trusty German shepherd sidekick all year but he died young (not riding, but cancer I believe). Haven't seen anyone else willing to risk life or bike around here.

Thumbs down

Yup riding every day unless there is (or is a likelihood of) ice and/or snow on the roads.

Been caught in some snow squalls (including this eve on the way home) and the coldest I've ridden this season is -13 c (estimated. The thermometer says "lo" below -10c and is 2 degrees C optimistic So it had to be at least -13c or about 9f.

Flying off to BC training the next few days. Hope it's still ridable when back.

My ST1300 forum has a section called Coldest Ride. Gotta ride at least 10 miles and take a pic of the temp (bank, external thermometer, etc.). A few years ago the "winner" was -25F in Idaho I think. No thanks!
