Strom-buying tips?

Well, it's official -- I received the blessing from the family accountant (Mrs. Bajakirch) to go bike-shopping in the spring. After test-riding a lot of bikes that could be the potential replacements for my '98 Kawasaki Concours, I've settled on the V-Strom 650. But I'm still new to the model and wonder what what I need to know as I start shopping bikes.

Here's what I know so far: I'm looking for a Strom no more than 10 years old, and I want it fully kitted out, with hard side bags, top box, center stand, tipover bars and hand guards. Max budget will be around $5k.

Anything I should be aware of regarding model years or trim levels, given my parameters?

If it's a good day to wash the bike, it's a better day to ride the bike.

Go for a Gen 2 bike, 2012+.

ABS, improved motor and suspension. Nicer looking than the Gen 1 IMO.

I think you can find I used 2012-2013 for about $5k if it isn't the adventure. I would stay with 2012+ years but make sure all recalls have been done.

2014 Suzuki V-Strom 1000 ABS (Candy Daring Red)
2017 Kawasaki Versys-X 300 ABS (Graphite Grey)
2013 Suzuki V-Strom 650 ABS Adventure (sold)

Satch has a 2013 V-Strom 650 listed in the Strom marketplace on this site. $4900 with 5600 miles with much of what you want. I recommend you check it out and talk with him ASAP.

Just about broken it. Just check the recalls. Sounds perfect. I just sold a gray 2013 DL650A for just over 5000.

I recently bought a K9 and love it to death. Don't be afraid of a slightly older model if it comes decked in your budget.
