One month of Ownership overview
I have had the Vee and the Wee for a month now, ~750 miles on the 04 Vee and ~300 on the 09 Wee, (the wifeís weekends have not allowed her to ride on Saturdays, I have gotten out a bit more than she), we bought the V-Stroms to meet a desire to do more adventure touring than the KTM and Kawasaki in the garage would allow.
As of now, very pleased with our purchases, as the tires on both are street tires, our riding has been all on-road so far, which is quite a change from our riding on the dual sports, we leaned more towards fire roads and jeep trails. Coming from the other bikes, the V-Stroms are a lot smoother rides, with the 650 smoother than the 1K, (I am having a bit of the clutch chudder), but overall, really enjoying the new bikes. I am working on a build sheet for both bikes, for things like tires, protection, electronics and gear that will make our adventure touring successful.
Living @ ~8500 ft in the front range of the Colorado rockies, the window on the riding season is closing on us, soon the temps will drop, the snow will fall and out the mag chloride will come, we hope to get a 75 mile or so ride in this weekend, which may be our last, given that we donít have a lot of cold weather riding gear.
I am planning to begin working on the items on the build sheet this winter, thinking that I may tackle the Werks clutch basket before years end and will have new tires on both when spring hits.
When we made the decision to go the adventure touring route, I was looking at the BMW GS and the KTM adventure bikes, but in my research, I started to look at the V-Strom models, but was a bit wary of the low prices, but further investigation, they were found to be a solid performer and a great platform to build on.
