1/2crazed back from Alaska! Closes loop on Key West to Prudhoe Bay and back ride!
Guess the title says it all. I returned yesterday from my solo Deland, Fl to Key West, to Prudhoe Bay, Alaska and back to Deland, Fl ride.
I don't know the exact miles yet, but it was over 14,000 miles I'm sure.
It was an awesome ride and an epic adventure. I am still mentally digesting the details.
I was able to check off all the boxes I wanted to check-Dalton Highway, Denali Highway, Top of the World Highway, Salmon Glacier road,,,and a hundred other destinations.
The good, virtually everything! No mechanical issues with the bike, no health issues, didn't drop her anywhere...
The bad, as I sit down to post this, I notice I still have some slight strength and dexterity loss in my right index finger, secondary to overusing the cheap throttle lock cruise control I put on before I left!
Otherwise, there were many challenges met and obstacles overcome, it was not all miles and smiles just like on any other motorcycle road trip! Which is exactly why I and so many of you enjoy them so much. If it was all so easy, little girls could do it.
And thanks to macdoc for suggesting the beadrider seat cover! I was able to complete two back to back unofficial Iron Butt rides the first two days of my northbound journey- Deland to just east of Indianapolis the first day, and then on to Fargo, ND the next day. Over 2,000 miles in two days. Without the beadrider,,,no way!
I never posted from on the road due to not wanting to be married to a ride report as well as scanty and slow wifi. My main priorities were twofold, to return safely and in one piece, and to do my best to communicate with my wife and 87 year old dad at least once per day. And that can be challenging in the far north as you can imagine.
Anyway, I've never posted a ride report on this forum, so any advice will be appreciated, esp as far as the most effective way to post photos. I am currently using photobucket and resizing and posting. If there are better ways, please share.
I hope to start posting a RR in the next few days. In the meantime, if anyone has any specific questions please reply and I will be glad to relay my experience.
And to the forum member from Fairbanks who wanted to chat while I was up there, I apologize, I forgot to give you a call. I was so busy there anyway between getting my new tires mounted and changing my oil and mentally agonizing over everything that could go wrong on the Dalton. Anyway, shoot me a pm if you'd like and I'll try to get back to you in a day or two.
In the meantime,
Ride Safe Y"all!
Oh, here's a pic of me right after getting home yesterday...
