Chains chains?

My sons and I are leaving for Prudhoe Bay Alaska late in July. The whole trip should be about 15K miles round trip. I have the bikes pretty well outfitted but I've seen a lot of stories including broken chains (mostly in Alaska). Should I bring an extra chain for each bike (3 total) or should one extra and some master links be enough?

I know its a crap shoot but generally speaking I'd expect the chains to last the whole trip unless we pick up a rock or something.

Completely open to suggestions here....

Master links are never a bad idea and take up no space. A chain is quite heavy and if your current chains are at the beginning of their lives then I wouldn't worry about bringing a replacement.
