Mirror spontaneously broke...

So I was riding home today, when I noticed that little conical piece of plastic under the mirror was cracked in half. What the hell? The bike only has 1200 miles on it...

As near as I can tell, nothing has bumped the mirror to cause this, it just cracked right down the middle. Now that mirror is much looser than the other one. And the weird thing is, I can't get the two halves to fit together over the area that they're supposed to go. It's as if there was too much tension on it and it's been in the process of cracking apart for a while.

Has anyone else seen this on their bike? I called a local Suzuki dealer, and over the phone he pretty much decided that I broke the mirror by bumping it.

Here's the other mirror, for comparison:

I would think that they would have to prove you bumped it. I would take the bike and pieces back to the dealer and ask for the owner/manager. Tell him the story and see what happens.
I know this is not the best way to handel it, but in the past I have gone to the dealer(car) and in the middle of the showroom get loud and really raise a ruckus. I got the problem fixed. Off course, I have also been asked to leave and escorted out.:bom_furious3:

Totaled on June 9 2012 08 Victory Vision Tour Premium.
No longer riding due to injuries on June 9 2012.

Same thing happened on my Wee the other day, broke cleanly in half just like yours...

I think there is an issue with the plastic they used on those conical adapters, or whatever they are called.

I couldn't believe that the two halves at on time were actually one piece ! no way I could get them close to each other.

I had one crack on my '05. It's definitely a materials issue. It's often reported.

Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. I didn't quite make it to 17,000 miles on the 2012 DL650A.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 DL1000s. Vee2=2014-2016 DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 DL650s. Glee = 2012-2016 DL650s

yep both sides had cracks in them on my 05 and I just noticed my 07 has a crack on the right side. It's just one of those things you just shrug off and keep riding.

It's good to hear that I'm not the only one who's had this problem...

Yeah, I tried to put the halves of the part back on, to "test fit" it prior to gluing it back together, and I couldn't get the two halves to meet around the mirror stalk. How the hell did it go together initially?

The thing that sucks is that now it's just flopping around with no tension. :bom_furious3:

Those stock Strom mirrors are horrible, they need a replacement anyway. I'd use this as a reason to order new ones

Yeah, but I'm still in that honeymoon period where I'm unwilling to tolerate anything less than perfection... My checkbook is still sore from buying this thing. I was hoping the next thing this bike was getting was a Stebel horn, not non-sucky mirrors.

So, name me some good replacements. I'd prefer something that is a bolt-on application, and not too pricey.
