My MPG 2 cents

After noticing my MPG drop to under mid 40s on the Wee, I decided today on my trip to drive more like I did last year keeping the rpms around 5k or lower....guess what 50 MPG almost on the nose. Differences:Less aggressive driving, lost the Bestem topbox, and lowered the Givi Windshield. Today's trip was about 50/50 hwy and stoplight traffic.

I found on a recent trip, in the same day, a difference from low 40s to high 50s due to two factors:
  1. highway speeds from 55 - 65 vs. 45 - 55
  2. very gusty winds vs. riding in sheltered areas
Both were on a semi-loaded bike (top box, side cases, everything close to full), with a big GIVI windshield at the high position.

My mileage went up with the much larger Windstrom Manta. With a 16t front sprocket, I am getting 48 to 50 with a topbox, I fight the wind regularly, I ride it pretty easy going through the gears staying under 5000 in town, but I usually cruise at 90 and above, indicated, on the slab.

Oddly I think my mileage also went up after getting the Givi Windshield. Seems like the larger screen would reduce it but for some reason it seems to have improved by a couple MPG.

My mailman SHOULD be delivering a custom burned pc3 for my 07 650 today. I don't care if I lose an mpg or two if it means power compensation for the full luggage(weight) that I'm sporting these days. The thing will still get good mileage.

Yeah, I've only got a couple tanks in her so far, and have just been varying the RPMs all the time taking entrance and exit ramps and feeders whenever possible to break her in, and yet still got 52mpg. With more constant speeds keepin RPMs reasonable, I'm pretty sure mine will do 60mpg as well.

Did a little break-dance at the gas station. I'm used to 25mpg premium if driving conservatively in the Vette.

Mine's an '07 Wee with just over 4K on her. I just did an 800 miler to Fla. and back. Averaged about 50 on the 600 miles ridden on the interstate at 80mph GPS speed. Went up to 55 mpg on 200 miles of 2 lane running 55-65mph. But I haven't seen anything over 55mpg on this bike and I am a very moderate rider. I'm sure I could get 60 if I kept her under 50 with no drag starts.

Distance after bar start flashing

In case you are wondering.....I ran out of fuel 62 km ( 38 miles) after the last fuel bar started flashing. I was cruising at 100 kph ( 62 MPH) at the time. I thought I could make it the 75 Kms ( 46 miles) I needed to go to get to the nearest pump. Call the CAA (AMA in the US) and they were there with complementary fuel to get me on my way. Saved a bunch of shoe leather and had time to clean the bug remains off the shield before they arrived.
