Escort 8500 radar detector and autocom wiring

I have a autocom super pro avi. I pllugged a 3.5mm mono cord from jack 2 into the escort. I am not getting any sound, but a little if I wiggle it. The 3.5 seems a little loose. What cables do I need to hook them together? I think its got something to do with a Ground Loop isolator (autocom or escort?). Do I get a stereo to mono adapter from radioshack or something else?

Thanks for the help!
Eric

*Edit*
I tried a stereo cord, a mono cord, and a stereo with mono adapter and none work (just a little if you wiggle the cord). If I buy the escort GLI cable will that allow me to hear it through the autocom?

Pony up for the Autocom kit. Pricey, but cheaper than a speeding ticket.

I use this: http://www.marcparnes.com/Visual_Alert.htm That way I don't have to worry about sound. I struggled with the mono input, making a little "spacer", and other attempts at fixing the audio, but finally just said screw it and ponied up.

That's what I use. Mounted on the top of the screen. Can't miss it when it alerts.

I never fell in love with the VA. It just wasn't easy enough to see. A friend wired a superbright LED into the top of his DL1k windscreen, but I wasn't willing to integrate a radar into the bodywork like he did.

I use the 8500 with a MixIt2 with a mono-mono cable and it works perfectly.

You should be able to test the audio without the autocom. Get a mono->stereo adapter and you can plug some earbuds into it. That way you know where the problem is.

I ordered the GLI cable from escort so we will see what that does. A pair of earbuds and a mono adapter works fine, so I'm hoping the gli cable will do the trick. I've heard of people doing their own with a 1:1 audio isolator from ratshack, but I figured this is one project I would pass on due to the cost of the 2 pieces its connected too I'll let you all know as this seems to be a fairly common problem.

The escort GLI adapter fixed, and now the detector is very loud. In fact I keep it turned up to about 1/5th volume.
