Quick question on countersprocket nut and red stuff

I am installing a new Counter sprocket nut on a dl650. It has red/orange stuff all around the center of the nut. Is this the locktite or do I need to add my own?

dl650k5 -fully farkled- 65k miles. Sold but not forgotten

It is. Heat and/or lots of leverage are required. There is a bend over tab lock nut there too. I still think it's a good idea to clean the threads to use new red loctite when putting the nut back.

Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. I didn't quite make it to 17,000 miles on the 2012 DL650A.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 DL1000s. Vee2=2014-2016 DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 DL650s. Glee = 2012-2016 DL650s

The red stuff is on the brand new nut all around the middle. Should I scrape it off and use new stuff, or just torque it on the way it is? Sorry I'm just trying to make sure its obvious it came on the new nut

I didn't understand you got a new nut. Just use it with the factory applied compound then.

Thanks very much for the help Greywolf! I installed it with the factory compound and it was a piece of cake. The impact made getting the old nut off a 10 second affair compared to the last time that took an hour and alot of effort. I'm trying out a 16t socket so we will see how that fares. From a brief test ride it seems decent, although now I actually feel like down shifting when accelerating. Not sure how I feel about that yet. Either way its so easy to change everything, I ordered a new 15t also. Thank goodness for airtools!
