Dumb question: Anyone traded their DL1000 for a 650?

The bikes are exactly the same except in cc and extra exhaust. Why would anyone trade down?

Not true. There are many more differences and moving from a Vee to a Wee is NOT trading down (IMHO). The two bikes are very different in how they ride and feel. The Wee is much smoother, lighter (feels more than the 50 pounds lighter), usually more reliable (although both bikes are quite good on this issue) and gets more mpg! I've ridden both and the DL650 suits me much better.

At the dealership where I bought mine there was a used DL1000 with 1000 mikes on the odometer. The salesman said the guy traded for the 650 after one month.

And Yes, Brendan did go from a 1000 to a 650 as well.

I basically went the other way. Although, I could see doing it this way.

The biggest differences are in the gearing.....and the 1K has more top end.

* This must be a joke right?

Why would anyone go to Less Horsepower, Worse gearing for freeway, missing parts and 1 exhaust?

I dunno... The guy who owned my Vee (and put over 90,000 miles on it) traded it in on a new 650. He went out and started doing the same thing on the 650 as he did the 1k... He was an older gentleman, from what I understand. I guess if you don't ever use the power, why pay for it in fuel?

When/ if a dl800 is ever made, I'll consider something larger than my 650. Maybe the technology will have it @ the same fuel mileage w/ 20 extra horses like the dl800 does in my fantasy.
