Top Case questions to go with PLX side cases on DL650

I'm looking at top cases and like the V46's okay, so I'm pretty sure I want to go that route. So here are my dumb questions:

1. Vendor says the givi plate is too close and squeezes the passenger and offers SW mototec adjustable plate for twice the price. Worth it? I rarely have a pillon, but when she's on there, I want her to be comfortable.

2. Will the top-plate interfere with the side racks? Side racks basically mount underneath the luggage rack mounting points. I assume the top-rack mounts either to the stock luggage rack or connects via the same holes. Do I need longer mounting bolts or is this all included in the kit?

3. Can you order the top-case with a pre-specified key code? I'd like to have the same key for both side-cases and top-case. Is this an option or do I get to have two identical looking keys that work different boxes?

4. I am assuming I can get a fullface helmet into this box. Can someone confirm this for me? I use HJC-15CL Large.

Thanks!

I had a hard time deciding between the PLX and the E41's, finally went with the E41's, just because they are larger, will hold two full-face helmets, has the sidedoor keyless system, and are the same price. I checked out both and the PLX will hold a fullface helmet, it will fit very snug in there. You will need to purchase a new three lock set, as Givi will not sell single keyed locks, I think these three lock set are around $22. The SW Motech mounting plate will work fine on your bike and be sure to get it in black. I've seen your setup and it looks great.

I ordered the E35 Traffic2 top case to go with the PLX side cases. The E35 would fit a XL helmet with no problem. I returned the E35 a few days after it arrived and ordered the V46 top case. Why? I did not like the way the E35 latched... it was very awkward to work. I asked the owner of Amotostuff, which is where I purchased the cases, what match the latching on the PLX side cases. It turns out that the V46 has the same latch as the PLX and it will fit one XL helmet. so I ordered the V46 top case. I already have the Givi mount. And I had to buy the 3-key set too.

My wife likes the location of my E52 on the GIVI rack, but my son complains it puts him a little too close to another man. In either case, neither of them is actually forced into touching me - there's plenty of room.

My GIVI top plate is mounted on top of the Suzuki luggage rack - I can't imagine it interfering with any side racks unless they stick up way over the OEM luggage rack.

I've got the V46 and the SW-Motech rack. My regular pillion complains cause its not close enough to her back for her to lean on as comfortably as she would like. I tell her that's so when we go and its not there she doesn't forget and fall off. Usually ends the discussion (one of the few things I can be right about).

On the other hand, add a GIVI back rest in there and it would probably be about right. Also, I'm looking forward to the extra room it will give me for camping gear situated on the rear seat by moving the mount to the furthest extent out towards the back of the bike. The adjustability isn't present in the standard rack if I remember right.

The V46 fits my L size HJC AC-12 just fine, but no room for another.

Okay, so I went a different direction.

I decided to get a pelican case top-case from carribou(sp). I know it won't fit a helmet, but I can use it for 90% of my riding, and only put the side-cases on for trips. The flat top of the pelican case can be used to bungee mount more stuff if the two V35s & the case won't fit.

I'm not sure it will look all that great with both on, but I can deal with that. If later I decide I hate it I'll sell the Givi's and get the pelicans for the sides as well.

I'll take some pics when I get it all installed.
