oil showing on engine, a big problem?

Have about 6,000 miles on my DL1000. Looks like I have oil leaking out between the bottom part of the cylinder head and the transmission. Don't see liquid oil, but a dirty oily substance about 1/4 inch wide and about 3 inches long on the left side of the cylinder head. Is there a easy fix, or do I need to take it to the dealer? Should I just live with it, until I need tires, or seek help before then?

Is it still under warranty? I would have a dealer look at that.

If it is not under warranty I would take the tank etc off till you can see the motor clearly. Oil is funny stuff it can run down from a loose bolt or a gasket hit the area where the head bolts to the cylinder and then pool and run down from there. So I would do some close looking before I went to a shop or tore into the motor. Either way you need to get it stopped just waiting will generally never make anything better.

Keep the Rubber Side Down.
