FINALLY got the Pelicans + SW motech Racks installed !

YES! thanks to the information on this site, I am SUPER happy to announce how unbelievably well these fit on the bike, took about 2 hours to get everything bolted/drilled/finished. (Even put some Cable stays inside like on the Caribou's !)


Racks $214.00 (California Motorsports - Via Amotostuff I think)
Pelicans $182.00 ($91.00 each online - Boss Safety : http://www.boss-safety.com/shop/peli...am-p-1667.html)
Hardware $15.00 (bolts and washers and nuts)

Shipping costs ~ $55.00

Total of $466.00. -------> WAY LESS Expensive than anything else out there.

Just to add locks now and all done.

Good job, I did the same recently, and I am equally as happy.

How did you do the stays?

How are you going to do the locks? I am currently using padlocks, but would love to figure out how to have internal locks, ala Carabou.

Pelicans are 1550's from BOSS Safety for $91.00 each. (35 liters each - internal capacity)

I just used some 1/16th Aircraft cable from Home Depot and made a loop on each end using some Crimping clamps. Then just used an 8 - 1/4" screw to anchor it - short enough it doesn't go through the case but holds really well.

Congrats on the new bags. They look great. Everyone talks about how wide the SWM racks are. Could you post a picture to show the the bike from the back? Greatly appreciated. Tk

Here's a rear shot of my SW Motech racks with my new Pelican 1440 cases. Ignore the cases, but view the clearance between rack and bike. They don't seem to hang off too far.

I can see that the SW-Motech rack provides security, and one can also lock up the Pelicans, but isn't that all compromised if the bolts mounting the cases to the rack are exposed? Any solutions to this problem?

Well, I'm using stainless steel nylock nuts, which are mounted to the outside end of the bolt (exposed, outside the box). And there are 4 of them per box. And loosening nylock nuts really needs to have a wrench on the bolt head, too, otherwise the whole bolt assembly tends to spin without loosening.

I suppose some Locktite on the threads would slow them down even further. Just a touch of red Locktite would mean no turning that nut off the bolt without a wrench on the bolt head.

For that matter, any bolt on my bike could be removed and a part stolen. The luggage boxes are just one more part of the bike. I'm just trying to keep honest people honest. I tend not to park my motorcycle "on the wrong side of town".

sw motech

I have a pelican 1550 topcase and love it's toughness. A question about the sw motech sidecase mounting system. I noticed it only took a couple of hours for your install, are the motech racks a simple, self explanatory install? I have them arriving tomorrow along w/ hepco&becker gobi enduro sidecases.
