Oil (awe, c'mon, its been a few days since the last one), something different

This will be of particular interest to those of us that use the Shell Rotella products. This info was started in a thread on a different bike site, but a message appeared linking this site below from the diesel trucking folks talking about the changes from CI-4 and CI-4 Plus oils to the new low sulfur CJ-4 oils, such as the new Shell Rotella T Triple Protection 15w/40, which I have run through my bike once, at my first oil change at about 75 miles from new. It's been good ol' Rotella T synthetic 5w/40 every other change.

But, this thread that started on the other site also said his local Wally World was closing out the Rotella 5w/40. Uh-oh. I think I'll visit Walmart today...

Anyway, read this link (6 pages, and keep in mind it's for heavy diesel applications), and if you do read it take the time to understand and comprehend what is being said, and use the information at your own risk.

Just a few miles south of your old haunt, down in the bottom end of Anoka County, in the lovely hamlet of Columbia Heights. 8 houses north of the Mpls border.

Last summer I'd intersect a fella on a red VStrom heading south on East River Road south of I-694 a couple times a week, around 7:00am. Was that you? Me- blue 650, yellow coat, silver helmet.

Why'd you leave? Spring is actually about to arrive, after the 2-6 inch snowfall they are promising us for tonight.

Interesting, as my WM only has it in the gallon jugs......no quarts.

Yep, somethings goin' on for sure. We have 4 Walmarts here in Ft. Wayne & they are all out of the Rotella 5W-40 Synthetic. As a matter of fact, they don't even have a spot for it on the shelves anymore.

I live in my own little world, but it's OK, they know me here.

Steve,

Thanks for passing on the article. It was a good read. For me, when I purchase a rig, I plan to keep it for a while and oil is a big deal to me. I too use Rotella T Synthetic in all my vehicles, except my son's Jeep, which has over 170k miles and needs a thicker oil. For his Jeep, we were using Rotella Dino Triple.....but after reading the article, I think we will change to Penzoil Long Life 15W40, as we can buy it at our local WalMart.
