Is this a good price?

As I examined the Vee I bought yesterday, I noted that the fall the previous owner had taken was at a higher speed than I thought. The right passenger foot peg and bracket were ground down to where the clip that holds the peg up is gone. I have found someone selling a used bracket and peg for $75.00 and I was wondering if anyone here would know if that's a decent price. I know I don't really have to replace it but I would like things to look as good as I can get them. This will be my regular ride now and I can't have it looking beat up, right?

On the fiche at partsoutlaw.com, the pillion bracket lists for $85.94 and the footrest lists for $54.08 (YMMV -- I somewhat randomly looked up a 2009 DL1000, since you haven't revealed which year you have, And these are US parts prices.). Add in US shipping and you're looking at around $150 for brand new parts. You may also need the pin and e-ring for a few bucks more.

$75 frankly seems just a touch high for used parts, but not enough to quibble too much. If they're available right now in good shape, get 'em, bolt 'em on, and ride happy. You could spend all winter haunting fleaBay to save a lousy $20...

IF you're in the Niagara area...just call Clare's Cycle and get a quote on the parts...then you know what you're dealing with...simple and easy

Thanks BWRINGER. I hadn't been able to find an aftermarket dealer with that part available. Also hadn't heard of partsoutlaw.com. I'll have to check them out. In the picture for the used bracket and peg, the parts look to be in very good condition and now that I know the new parts price, it seems like a worthwhile deal to me. As you mentioned, I could watch all winter to save maybe $20 - and then again, the cost might go higher! By the way, I have 2006 - guess I'd better stick that info in here somewhere!

MILLWRIGHT98 - I try to avoid Clare's these days - I have been screwed around once too often by them in the last few years.

That's too bad.. a few of the v-strom guys I know up there are happy with them....they treated me great for 16 yrs..(grew up in Caledonia)..I ordered a new rear tire ahead of getting (knew I'd need it) there this summer on my trip home and to Port Dover, and they rolled out the red carpet for me...even replaced my brake fluid and bled the brakes, and gave the beast a good once over... at no charge!!... In fairness, I only dealt with the service guys, and they were great...cannot comment on the parts/sales desks.

I have dealt with them since 1971 and frankly the service over the past 6 or 7 years from parts and service departments has been less than stellar. And I'm not the only person who's noticed. I deal elsewhere now and receive far better and fairer treatment even though I've dealt there for a relatively short time.
