New member with a question. How do I lower the front end?

I've been lurking hereabouts for a while now to get enough info to help me make a decision. I am presently looking at a 2006 DL1000 at a dealer near here and I will probably be trading in my 2000 Venture. As a somewhat beat up old retired guy whose wife no longer rides, I wanted something more comfortable for longer trips than my old '94 Triumph Sprint (Pegs are too high) and the weight of the Venture has gotten to be a bit too much for me to deal with.

My question, which I'm fairly certain I've seen the answer to (But I'm a bit anal retentive), is this - how far can the front be dropped on the fork. From what I've read here, it looks like 3/4 of an inch is the safe limit before something "bumps". I think that with that done and a some lowering links to drop the rear a similar amount, I should be OK. As it stands now (No pun intended - honest!) I am on my toes and I really don't like that feeling at all.

the Wee Vee are not so special that you need be be less comfortable than is possible

Current Bike: 2007 ABS Wee, rebuilt forks with Cogent DDC, Elka rear shock, tapered roller steering stem bearings, fork brace, Admore top box lights, LED side-only turn indicator lights, Powerlet outlet, frame sliders, Givi windscreen, Givi top box.

Prior Bikes: 2003 EX250, 2007 DL650 (non-ABS)

The pinch bolts on the triple clamps that grab the fork tube need to be loosened a bit so the tube can move in the clamps. Lowering 21mm is the safe limit to keep the dust seals from hitting the lower triple clamp. Tighten the pinch bolts to 16.5lb-ft if you want to use a torque wrench. Do one side at a time so the side you are not working on will hold the bike up.

Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. I didn't quite make it to 17,000 miles on the 2012 DL650A.

I did it on my 2012, it's a piece of cake. I also lowered the rear with links. I had my son standing by just in case I needed help holding something, but I had no problems at all...........td

First: listen to greywolf

Second: very easy to do, especially if you have a center stand. I lowered the front on my Vee, I think 12mm, rear 5/8th, and it rides just fine. I also have a custom terry adcox seat lowered 1"

In addition, the rubber bumpers under the seat can be removed, and the foam in the seat can be cut down. A 650 seat is made lower, and snaps right on. Many 650 riders with aftermarket seats have a stock seat gathering dust and perhaps for sale.

Thanks, but the one I'm looking at has a very nice Corbin. I've enjoyed the one on my Triumph and I'd hate to get rid of it.
