Gulf Shores Riding Suggestions

My wife and I are renting a condo for a week in mid October in Gulf Shores, AL. We'll haul our bicycles in the back of the SUV and trailer the Wee2's. We'd just like to extend the two-wheeled riding season and chill on the beach. The area is unfamiliar to us though. Would anyone care to recommend favorite day trips/routes in the area, either bicycle or motorcycle? Thanks for your tips.

One suggestion would be to ride to Fort Morgan.
Can't really suggest any good riding roads because they all seem to be straight and flat.

Try the roads on each side of shelby lake in Gulf Sate Park, for either bicycle or MC. You can find some nice wooded country roads if you cross the bay to mobile county, several will take you into Mississippi. You should also check out the bar/grill at pirates cove marina, lots of locals and boaters. Its at the end of CR95 in Josephine AL, Josephine drive is also nice just off of CR95.

If you go to Fort Morgan, take the Dauphin Island ferry over to Dauphin Island and enjoy the fort and the estuarium and shell mound park. The views are spectacular, there are no chain resteraunts, try the lighthouse bakery for breakfast especially. It is well worth the visit.

I'd also recommend a ride out 182/292 to Pensacola to watch the Blue Angels practice and also visit the Naval Aviation Museum.

I've spent a lot of time down in Orange Beach, and I will agree with the other poster here, most of the roads are straight and flat, so not too exciting for motorcycles. I would always take my road bicycle and do a lot of riding; a trip out to Fort Morgan and a trip out to Pensacola were always good rides, except for the 40 mph head wind that was often in both directions.

It is great fun to watch. Best viewing, IMO, is from the Naval Air Museum parking lot.
The museum is another "must see".

Head east on 98 thru Pensacola and then down 399 to Gulf Island National sea shore. It is really a nice ride but low speed limit.

Mid-October riding in GS should be "stellar", weatherwise!!!! If you come anywhere close to Birmingham, stop and spend literally "hours" in the Barber Motorcycle Museum........and if the weekend of Oct 11-12, take in The Vintage Motorcycle Festival (along with 60,000 other motorcycle enthusiests).

Just got back yesterday from visiting my mother in Mobile. We decided to spend Friday at Gulf Shores and go by Flora-Bama to see what was happening. They were gearing up for thier daily bingo contest so we decided to indulge since it was free. They were giving away t-shirts, drinks, tickets etc...We had a great time!
That evening Sammy Kershaw was going to be the entertainment. Last month it was Kenny Chesney. This bar is iconic for the area and may be something you may want to visit. I used to hang out there 20+ years ago when my cousin owned Margaritaville in Gulf Shores. Things have changed a bunch since then!
