needle cycle and starting

Is there any reason I should wait for the needles to cycle back and forth before starting the bike?

No........

Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. I didn't quite make it to 17,000 miles on the 2012 DL650A.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 DL1000s. Vee2=2014-2016 DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 DL650s. Glee = 2012-2016 DL650s

I'm not usually fast enough to mash the button before the cycle is over. Isn't there some purpose for the sequence the maker provides?

It is the bike going through self checks. I always give the bike at least 5 seconds after the self check to allow the fuel system pressure to come up to pressure and stabilize.

When turning on the ignition there's a noise that lasts 2-3 seconds that I've always assumed is the fuel pump priming itself. I generally wait until that stops.
