Alaska 2014

Ok so I've seen a few people planning to go. Including me. So post up when where your going in this thread if you want. Maybe it could help someone etc. Meet up or at least have a clue who we might see out on that great stretch of road.

So it is me and my Dad going again. We have rode it twice on KLRs (2010,2012) and now we are both riding V-Strom 650s

We leave June 1st from Ohio and make the mad dash to my uncles house in MT. We are trucking the bikes to there as highway is BORING...and its a huge time saver for me. Dad isn't as limited on time.

Then up to AK most likely by June 9th. Pretty much straight up Through Icefield parkway to the ALCAN... maybe a detour around the Robert Campbell Hwy. Then we change tires, check the weather and try for Prudoe. I fly home the 17th I think.

Work for a while

Fly back up end of July. And we've planned Valdez, Chicken and TOTW. Then the dempster and home... We are more flexible on this side of things fortunately...

So that is our rough plan...

Post up yours if you want... Never know who you'll run into on the road.

Oh if this is a repeat post or in the wrong place...sorry in advance.

2005 V-Strom 650
w/ to much added stuff to list.

How will your V-Stroms do compared to the KLRs? What tires are you going to run?

Probably June 10th, outside chance June 11th, leaving central Mn. Then in Fairbanks on the 14th or 15th. Then north. Hard Long ride to Fairbanks then take my time up the Dalton and back and take my time going home. Gotta be back by the 29th.

I was thinking about doing an Alaskan ride for 3 weeks in July but I've heard that 3 weeks is not a whole lot of time for what you can see. I look forward to reading your ride report.

That is awesome, and I am so envious!!! I would mount up some Shinko 705's were it me, pretty hard to beat them for an all around tire.

It appears you'll be one day ahead of us and we'll be on the same schedule, blasting the Alcan on the way up, to allow more time on the flip side. May get to see you on your return down the Dalton. Would love to have more time and do this properly but jobs currently dictate our free time. Need to work as big brother continues to double dip my pockets.

Try Inter Coastal Ferry

I am planning to take the inter coastal ferry from Bellingham WA up to Alaska and see the coastal sites and then tour Alaska and ride back the AlCan highway. This way I see more. Ferry is about 3 1/2 day trip to Homer

You are much younger than I, so that's not likely, but catch me if you can little brother.
