One for the books!

In the grips of the Artic Vortex hitting most of the USA right now - I rode to work like I always do. The temp gauge on the Glee said "Lo" I guess it can't go single digits???
Anyway - air temp at 6 degrees F - and I've got about an hour-and-a-half ride each way.
Anybody else ride to work today?
I wasn't sure I was going to ride today. However, I figured for Virginia this has to be some kind of a record low, hopefully for the rest of the winter (hopefully) so I might as well ride in and win the contest for coldest commuter.

I didn't know there was a prize!

Is it cash, goods or a sense of smug superiority?

prize package

-diminished sensation in fingertips, toes, and a grin that sort of froze in place somewhere along the trip when you contemplated the foolishness and fun of what you're doing.

That might be second place, I can't remember....

I did not ride today , but my buddy did. I have to dress according to the job I am involved in at the time (90% shop , 10% customer) today was a 10% day. Oh , it was 4 degrees with a -11 wind chill factor this morning. Friday it was 21 and with a WC factor of 11. I was pretty cold. I did accidentally lick my lips this AM , and they immediately froze.

Why have we never seen Mr. Spock on a motorcycle?

Because it is not logical.

Yikes....braver than me. It takes all that I can just to go outside to start my car, cannot imagine riding in temps like this. I can tell how hard my cold car tires are by how it rides, that means motorcycle tires could not possibly be gripping well.

This sums it up. You can look back and realize that it was fun. Doing things like this make riding an Adventure instead of the mundane.

I've got a heated jacket and handgrips, heated gloves would be the cat's pajamas.

After and unfortunate strobelight/black ice incident of 2010 (ouch!) and the car wash runoff episode of 2012 (really?) and the frozen dumpster juice event of 2013 (yuck.), I have become very judicious about my cold weather motorcyle forays.
