the real deal on cargo weight

so as I was loading up my wee for my weekly 3 day trip to the coast I started wondering about cargo capacity.

I have Givi E21s and a Givi V-46 on Givi case mounts. I believe the top mount says that the max capacity it 10 pounds. My V-46 with cargo rack and lights weights about 9 pounds. So I officially have 1 pound of cargo capacity???

When I was done loading up the top case probably weighed at least 25 pounds. Is this something I shouldn't do? (BTW the bike didn't feel top-heavy - hey I already got 245 pounds of me on the top ) What are people's experiences with loading up the bike. I know you guys go to Alaska and Argentina with this bike and I doubt that you take 1 pound of luggage.

Any long-term reports from Givi mount / V46 case owners would be especially appreciated.

The E21s were maybe 10 - 15 pounds each so that shouldn't be a problem.

Givi E-36's for side bags, and an E-52 for a top case. The E-52 is on a Amotostuff adjustable mount. The E-36's are on Givi mounts. We have had both loaded to the point of having to sit on them to close them. Easily 25 - 40 pounds each. Threw them on the bike and rode two up (325lbs and 200lbs) from Williamsport PA to Tampa FL, TWICE so far this summer. Bike handled fine and gave me an average of 42 mpg at 75mph. I actually got 46 mpg on one tank.

LOAD THAT PUPPY UP!!!:-D

DOH!!:???: Wait a minute. I ride a VEE not a weenie. Disregard.

The luggage rack sticker says 10kg which is 22lbs.

Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. I didn't quite make it to 17,000 miles on the 2012 DL650A.

Has it changed? I took the sticker off my '07 but I thought it was the same.

Label on the frame of my 06 1K says Gross vehical weight is 965 lbs, Susuki lists a 458 lb dry weight.
Figure 500 with gas, oil and antifreeze, that leaves you with 465 lbs of carrying capacity.
If you weigh 250, you can still carry around a fat chick

The difference between driving a car and climbing onto a motorcycle is the difference between watching TV and actually living your life.

Hey Grey.

It's not the Suzuki rack that says 5kg (mine also said 10kg). It's the Givi mount that says 5kg. I assume both limits are written by their lawyers and not their engineers.
