This year I'm going to WV and avoiding Deal's Gap just for that reason. It's clear that TN doesn't like that area being such a tourist location. In a way, I can see why. All the business and tax dollars are on the NC side. TN doesn't get jack from tourist dollars, but still they're paying for the police patrols. It still doesn't make it right what they're doing.

Hate to say it, but I think this is just the beginning of what is coming.

I saw a group of riders on Sunday out for a ride in the country. There were a lot of riders in the group. They came to a "T" intersection where there was a stop sign. The traffic was light, so the leaders started pulling out. A car came around the corner and I guess it was too much to hope that they would come to a stop as required by law. Not today! They continued pulling out in front of the car. The poor guy in the car - who had no stop sign had to bring his vehicle, with his family inside, to an emergency stop to avoid the folks trying to keep the group together. Of course, they started shouting obscenitis at the driver of the car who did everything he could do to keep from running a whole bunch of them over.

People are getting tired of this type of behavior! Very tired of it. Just think of all the places that are trying to close down their towns to motorcycle traffic. The locals that live there are tired of having a bunch of rude and crude people come to their town, make lots of noise and cause lots of problems.

There is no reason for the speeds that some attempt on "The Tail of The Dragon" and most of those are way above their capabilities. Perhaps that is why there is so much carnage on display at "The Tree of Shame"?

Go to Arkansas, great roads and they are glad to have you. When we have had a big group there, we have had the local cops drive through the parking lot and thank us for coming to there area. There are areas you can't find a straight road and they are good roads.

It's more fun to ride a slow bike fast than to ride a fast bike slow.

+1

I had a blast riding through Arkansas this summer. Got rained on a little but nice people and nice roads. 'Cept for that damn dry county that Fort Smith is in. All day in the saddle from Tucumcari to Ft. Smith and not a cold beer to be found. That just ain't right!
