Freya is DEAD

This is a cross post from 2002-2012 DL1000 for those who have been following Freya's problems. Hopefully, this cross-post won't get nuked by the mods.

------------------------------

I took Freya out this morning and the symptoms were much, much worse. 2nd gear is now grinding.

Blown transmission.

I took her to my mechanic (who has been a bike mechanic for 35 years) and he confirmed it. 2nd gear is no more.

It would take at least $2500 in repairs. Not worth it.

I am sick about this. Freya was my sweet baby, now she's dead.

I'm going to to have a good cry now.

I will figure out what to do with her later. Probably sell her as a parts bike.

Crap.

Thank you Tom.

I know non-bikers would not understand how much this hurts. She was much, much more than a machine to me. She was my beautiful sweet baby hooligan bike. I will miss her so much.

Sorry to hear that. $2500 sounds like a lot. Did you get a list of the parts that have to be replaced?

Complete motors on Flea-bay (02 & 03) for well under a grand. Could that be an option?

Mourn her loss, but celebrate her life....and imbue your next bike with her spirit.

Thanks for the suggestions about new engines, but we live in a condo. There's nowhere to work on a bike here and I really don't think I want to buy a used engine. Who knows what I'd really get.

I'm so sad.

Princess Barbie and I will talk about what to do tonight when she gets home from work.

Labour here is almost 100/hr. Parts are insanely expensive. At least 4 gears and probably shaft(s) as well.

It's just not economically feasible to rebuild her. She's a 2003 with 120,000km on her. Not much in the way of resale value.

Thanks for your suggestion though.
