Givi Maxia 55L Top Case

I bought a used 2012 Vstrom 650 and this case came with the bike. I'm thinking about the Admore Light Kit for this case, but before I invest $140 into it, I have a few concerns:

1. The case is a little beat up, and it has 1 folding metal hinge in the right corner. I suspect there was a matching hinge in the left corner, but it must have broke off. Why even have a folding hinge? Wouldn't a simple nylon cord be better to control how far the top opens?? And incredibly, the top doesn't open up far enough to stay up by itself which is real pain in the a$$. I can't believe they designed it that way. Could it be my 1 hinge is bent preventing it from opening all the way??

2. The case is a little "creaky". Pushing the button to open it, closing the top, the way it attaches to the bike, the whole thing doesn't feel solid and precision like. When I go over a big bump, I find myself glancing in my mirror to make sure the case didn't fall off! I expected more from Givi.

3. At first I hated how the case looked on the bike, it seemed way too big. But it doesn't bother me as much now, and I do like having the extra space. Still, I'm convinced the bike would look better with something smaller.

I'm thinking should I keep the case and buy the light kit or should I start fresh with a different case? Any comments or opinions are appreciated! Thanks.

You can buy replacement parts for that case. Twisted throttle is one source.

I like the case, used it for 3 years before switching to a much larger Motofizz bag.

Based on what you said, you may be missing rubber spacers/mounts on the bottom and you should definitely go over the latching and locking mechanism with some lubrication. It should work smoothly.

I have this case and Admore lights on my K5 650, yeah it's a little big but I also found that I liked the extra storage. Mine is fairly new, and it creaks a bit also when pushing it closed, and the lid doesn't like to stay up. I can't remember, but I seem to think mine has two metal brackets in the hinges. I'd have to check in the garage to make sure.

The lights are definitely worth the money, they make the rear end of the bike MUCH more visible in traffic. This is from my wife driving behind me in her car. Drilling a hole in the case with the included bit is a little scary at first, but it works. It's a good safety investment, though there are other LED lights that flash with brakes you can add on cheaper. I'm very happy with the set-up overall though.

Fresh case would be better if you have the budget.

[QUOTE ...you may be missing rubber spacers/mounts on the bottom ...[/QUOTE]

Good call. A rubber spacer was missing. I improvised with a felt pad and that tighten it up a bit. Looking at it more, it seems like the Suzuki rack itself is flexing a bit since the case hangs past the rack by several inches. Can this case be mounted further forward?? Looking at the mounting rack, I'm not sure if it's possible. If it could be moved forward another inch, I think there would still be enough space for a passenger. If I can do this and replace the metal hinge with a cord so the top stays open, I think I'll keep it. It is the Tech version (the one with clear lenses) which I like better than the regular red lenses. Thanks.
