CB Radio Push to Talk Switch

I am about to install a Sierra Electronics Cobra hand held CB radio on my '07 Wee. The kit comes with a push to talk transmit switch that velcros around the left hand grip. It is a crummy item that tends to fail soon, with any amount of use.

The Strom has a "flash to pass" switch on the front of the left switch housing. For me it is a seldom-if-ever-used feature. What I'd like to do is disconnect the wires coming from the headlight and wire in the transmit switch from the CB radio. Can this be done safely without interfering with the headlight circuit and operation? It looks like a simple procedure of unsoldering the high beam headlight wires and soldering in the wires from the transmit switch. thanks for any input and wisdom here.

Why not get an Autocom part 1454 and chop that. It mounts to the left grip using a plastic tie-strip and is fully waterproof.
