Had a bit of a close call this morning
I was coming down the off ramp on my way to work this morning...in the dark...and there was a truck that had slowed traffic to almost a stop. I noticed lights in my mirrors, and they were getting bigger, fast. I kept my eye on them and sure enough, they weren't going to get stopped. I hit the gas and moved up beside the car in front to see the one coming from behind slow to the other side of the same car. As it turned out, there was enough room for it to get to the side, even if I hadn't moved, but that isn't always the case.
The reason I say this is because it wasn't long ago there was a thread about the cop running over a bike from behind. Someone made the comment about the bike should have seen him coming, and others said that was unreasonable. I didn't say anything then, but from the time I started to drive, I was taught to be aware of everything around you, even behind. I may spend more time looking behind me than I need, but when I am on the bike, I make damn sure I know what is going on in front, beside and even behind me. I also make sure I have an escape route.
It doesn't matter if it isn't your fault, your still dead...do what you can to avoid it.
That's all for my PSA of the day.
