I recently bought a new DL-650 K7. I love it to bits. It looks and goes beautifully. My best ever bike in fact.

I have the touring model K7 in blue, with ABS, hand-guards, centrestand and a colour-matched topbox. I added Suzuki crash-bars and a skid-plate. I ordered a carbon rear hugger from the dealership but it didn't fit properly as the K7 swing-arm is 12mm longer and slightly thinner than the K6. Luckily I didn't like the look of it anyway and the dealer swapped it for the 650-X dark low screen; much better in terms of wind noise and buffeting (looks great) though for touring I will try a GIVI tall screen. For the same reason I'll be fitting a Scottoiler, an indispensable upgrade for serious mile-munchers. I also added the carbon-look V-Strom tank-protector and chrome Suzi tyre caps. (That's it for now darling wife I promise...!)
My last bike was a Kawasaki KLE 500, best forgotten quickly - bought and sold in six weeks (no power, dire handling, little brakes, and very uncomfortable.) I sold it and bought the V-Strom: a world apart.
Before the KLE I had my long-term gem of a bike: the fabled Yamaha FJ1200. It was grunty, fast, and rock-steady. Bought new in 1990 for £4400 it kept going until 124,000 miles as realiably as a Swiss watch and sold for £1250. All it ever needed was regular feeding with petrol, oil, tryes, batteries, chains and sprockets, and minor TLC when occasionally necessary e.g. rear-wheel bearings, camchain, exhaust, shock/fork servicing and other simple-to-fix age-related niggles. No faults on the FJ12 EVER left me walking home or calling the RAC. That's impressive reliability. Nothing ever stopped it: hail, snow, torrential rain, high mountain passes, flooded roads, desert storms; nothing. As to the engine - an unburstable gem.
Previous steeds (Italy '75 to '85) Garelli 50cc 2stroke, Laverda 125cc 2stroke, Ducati 350cc Scrambler, Guzzi V35 / V65, Ducati 900SS. The I moved to England ('85-present) Honda CG125, Honda CB400, and the Yamaha FJ1200 from '91. I daily commuted in London 2 miles each way ('95 to '03) on a Piaggio Vespa PX200IE, Piaggio 125 "new-style" Vespa, and Kymco Ego 250, only using the FJ12 at week-ends and for touring.
Where I now live in Devon, UK, the Wee-Strom has everything I want from a bike. It has an ideal blend of acceleration, flickability, motorway cruising speed and A-road grunt. It will hold 100mph steady as a rock on the motorway, managing 220 miles between refills. It has excellent 60mph roll-on power, leaping forward through 70, 80 and 90. It begins to run out of steam around 100 and eases to a max about 125, but who cares anyway? I neither crave nor need 155+ mph that I (once) got on the FJ12. 70mph to 90mph is where it's for me for cruising these days (I'm now 45...) as I neither want to lose my licence nor my life.
So the Wee-Strom is by far the best bike in the world. Unbiased opinion. With 40% less power than the FJ-1200 it is much lighter, feels faster, handles, turns and stops better.
For long-distances the Yamaha FJ12 was easily able to blast my wife and I across Europe, in pretty good confort, up to 900 miles in a day. I discovered how bad the Wee-Strom seat was on our first long jaunt as we rode 350 miles each way to see the MotoGP in Donington. It was a real pain in the ass - rock hard after 100 miles, numb at 150, sore at 200, agony by 250. Has anyone tried it for fit and comfort? I'm 6'4". It sure looks purty though...
