I just received my set of TKC80, I was planing on mounting them up today to scuff them in before my ride to Banff. But I got to thinking.... Are they going to last 5-6k miles on the trip? I don't mind wearing them out, that's why I got them, but I don't want to have to buy tires half way through the trip.

I figure they will last the entire trip, and then the rear will be done. I can mount my Conti Road Attacks back on when I get back.

What do you guys think?

I can advise that on my KLR650, I can only get about 2500 miles out of a rear tire with TKC's. I love the tire but just can't see getting new every 2500 miles. I have been told that I am an aggressive rider so that might explain some of it. As a result, I run Anakees on both my DL and my KLR and I get about 8500 miles on a rear tire.

I wouldn't change to the TKC's on a trip like this as the cost of tires in Canada are a bit more costly, plus the trouble of getting new put on at a dealer might cost time. Just an opinion tho'. I made a trip to Banff and failed to change my rear tire as it only had about 6000 miles on it. (Trailwings) Well, by the time we got to Banff, the rear was shot. I found a great dealer in Calgary who went the extra mile for us and replaced it but the time and expense was a bit more.

I just got back from a 130 mile ride to scuff up the TKC80. I don't care if I have to get a new rear half way on my trip. Maybe call ahead to a shop in Jackson hole or in Salt lake.

The tires handle awesome!!!!!! They turn in much quicker than stock and way quicker than the Road Attacks. They also hold a line better than both. I really like this tires, I was comfortable in all situations, even when a cage tried to take me out on Buckman Springs road and I had to do emergency stop. Dam good feed back for knobbies.

TKC 80 durability

They area superb tyre but are very soft, having a very high percentage of Silicone rubber IIRC.

On my F650GS Dakars they were good for 3000 K's, and that was it.

One suggestion I made to another rider was use the Tourances to get from A-B, then have the TKC's waiting for a swap over for the intense Adventure stuff at the destination
