Alarming rattle from front cylinder head

I have a 07 1k with 1800km.
I changed the oil at 1200km, no metal on plug.
In the last 80k, I hear the occasional rattle coming from the front cylinder head.
It seems rare, but has happened on my last 2 rides and is intermitent.
It sounds like a camchain rattle and happens when the bike is warm.
Any help would be appreciated.

I am using 10w60 synth.
It dosnt get quiet when the clutch is pulled in.
If the valves were loose, wouldnt it rattle all the time.
It is usually after the bike is warm at low rpm, just of idle.
then as soon as it starts, it stops.
Is there a cam chain tensioner issue?

10W60 seems awfully thick (to me). I always thought 60 weight was race only viscosity. Maybe change that out for some 10W40 and see if the noise goes away.

Remember what greywolf always says...
"Oil threads and noise threads rarely help anybody"
Since this has turned into both, I expect you to cease and desist with the continuation of this thread immediately!

Oh yeah, and it's pretty much blasphemy around here to suggest using ANYTING other than 87 octane. And yes, I meant to say any"ting" because that is how my bike sounds when I use 87... ting ting ting.

I would try both suggestions- the proper weight oil, and some higher octane gas. I notice my 07 is much smoother with 93 compared to 89, no matter what the resident experts on this board say. My bike rattles like a can full of bee bees, and I've pretty much decided to say F**K IT, enjoy the thing, and not worry about it. I'm trying to get as many miles as possible on it in the first year, hoping something will fail before the warranty is up. If it doesn't, then I'm not going to worry about it.

Oh yeah... the 60 in 10W60 refers to the "at temp" viscosity. It should act like 60 weight when warm. I don't know if that will cause a problem or not, but I would stick with 10-40 like the manual says, or at least try it and see if it makes a difference.

Not blasphemy...it is just that it puts "you" in the minority.;) Anything other than 87 in my 1000 is just a waste of good money. I have noticed that my bike doesn't seem to like Sunoco or BP gas very much, but anything else seems fine.

My engine makes considerable more noise if I use 10W40, and purrs like a kitten with 15W50. My DR650 also runs much smoother and quieter with the 15W50, compared to the 10W40.

Dragon997 try going back to dino oil in the future, and see if it makes a difference in engine noise. Just for shites and giggles! Just like any other issue, some bikes have them and some don't. Several 1000 owners have complained about an engine knock, I believe it has to do with the gear griven cams. There is a bit of play in there, that can cause a knock. The consensus is it's absolutley harmless.

Gentelmen, hope I can call you that.

Heres the deal.

Running 10/60 after the rattle started.
The top end rattle is very, very intermittent.
When I first heard it changed the oil right away to 10/60 from 10/40.

Only run premium gas 92 octane, since KM1.

NOW, there is a thumpin in the motor on the left side that kinda goes away, when there is a load on the clutch. It just started 100KM ago.
I am thinking clutch bearing?

The bike only has 2000km.

Totally normal, and the sound can be more pronounced when the temps outside are hot. THIS IS A TWIN ENGINE. These engines make noise, and that is the hard fact. It is best to ignore it, because these engines are VERY VERY VERY reliable. If you want noisy engines, go listen to a Ducati or Harley twin. My big DR650 thumper has a bunch of noises going on in there too, but it is also one of the most bulletproof engines that Suzuki has ever made.

I would'nt worry about a single thing that you hear, and just enjoy racking up the miles. The chances that something is "actually" wrong is very slim. My bet is that the engine will quiet down after more miles....that is what mine did.;) Take it to a dealer if it makes you feel better, but I'll bet they will tell you that nothing is wrong. There are 2 big pistons slapping around in there, and gear driven cams in motion. Most valves seem to be on the tight side when they are checked, so I doubt they are loose.

Usually, I hear voices in my head.
Not noises in my motor.

I have had a TL1000S and a RC51 so I am aware of the Vtwin noises.

Seriously, It only started 100k ago, on a 2000k engine.

The issue is that the knocking only comes on when the motor is warm and disapears when the clutch is engaged.

I hope your right that it goes away in time, but you can feel it through the entire MC.

I will have a dealer check it out just for good measure.

I will keep you posted.
