rejoining the collective but a ?

After I had to regretfully sell my '06 Wee I am able to rejoin the collective, I've found a mint condition, low mileage (335 miles!) '04 Wee for sale at a dealership. My question is, other than body panel colors and the silver frame on the '04 versus the black frame on the '06, is there any difference between the two years, '04 and '06? I'm assuming the handguards fit both years, but mechanically, wheels, brakes, etc, they're the same bike?
Thanks,
Alex

Virtually the same bike. A couple of the parts may have different part numbers but I don't see any functional differences, probably just manufacturing ones. There were no changes that can be pointed to except paint/powdercoat until '07.

Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. I didn't quite make it to 17,000 miles on the 2012 DL650A.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 DL1000s. Vee2=2014-2016 DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 DL650s. Glee = 2012-2016 DL650s

Willie, it isn't carved in stone (yet) that I'll be getting the bike but let's cross our fingers. The shoulder is the same old story, still in therapy, they're (the surgeon) talking about a third operation to remove all the scar tissue to free up the joint to speed up the rehab process; I'm defiantly against the third operation, all it does it speed up the rehab process and I'm willing to talk a longer time to get better just to avoid being cut open a third time which I think is understandable. We'll see how the drama unfolds, I have an appointment with my nurse case managaer and the surgeon on 7/10.
The bike was purchased new from the dealership by the gentleman that used to own the dealership where it was purchased from. It was used as an around town scooter type of deal and never saw much use as he owns a plethora of other bikes, it was traded in on a cruiser. Since the trade, the oil has been changed and it's been washed/waxed/detailed. We'll see what happens, hopefully it doesn't move before I have a chance to get my hands on it, my goal is to turn it in to the bike I had before. I'm hoping to rejoin the collective, itching to get back on two wheels, however if this deal falls through he's offering me (the dealership's manager) a killer deal on an '07 DR650. . .However, I'm still not able to ride so this may all be in vain:roll:

Hey Alex, we're even at 2. I wouldn't want a third surgery either!! Hang in there and even without the Vstrom, still good to know you're still checking in.
Good Luck on the 10th! I'm leaving on the 16th for Alaska and will return around the middle of August. I'll be away from the computer for that time.

enjoy the trip, when you get back I'd like to see a ride report with pictures! be safe, sounds like the ride of a lifetime, something I'd love to do, but being newly married, we've decided that before we start a family we're taking a europe guided tour by bike instead....planned for next year! will update with details as they unfold, just want to get back on a bike so I don't get "rusty" with skills...
