My Stebel Horn Mount contraption

This horn is loud. Mounted on DL1000K7

The hardest thing is finding a mounting spot for this horn. I've seen them all on this site. I took a different route and decided the simplest thing would be to use these thick 2 foot plastic straps (outlined in red in the picture) and wrap the worn around the engine guards.

Before doing that I had to unhook the old horn wires. To do that I had to remove the right fairing and bend the plastic cover behind the radiator to get to the horn.

I then routed the horn harness (it costs extra), from under the seat to the horn. I used a conduit to cover the exposed wires (outlined in yellow in the picture). I used dialectric grease under the horn to insulate the connections.

Notice the horn is mounted vertically and pointing inwards (Its the optimal mounting position for highest performance)

So far after 1,500 miles the horn has performed flawlessly and scared a few drivers. Maybe one day, I will find another spot.

You bought the horn wire which is a clear positive move. But you mounted the horn out the outside of the crash bars. If you fell on that side, the horn would get crushed and most likely crush the fairing as well...defeating the purpose of the crash bars, right?

Think about mounting the horn inside the fairing...I'm sure you've seen pics. It's much easier and protects the horn from weather and damage. Look at this picture of the left side under my tank. I pulled the horn wire through to the front and tied it down. This gives you an access point to mount the horn inside the fairing.

Next time I get inspired Im gonna open up everything and redo it. Actually I think it fits on the right hand side on the frame next to the headlight.

What's the stock horn fuse? I'm considering running it (same Nautilus) off the same horn wires. Any risk?

Damn.......That's nasty! I like this better............

It's louder and it keeps tailgaters away!

Please, remove that horn immediatly and relocate it under the front right fairing where it belongs.........I'm begging ya!.....

I wouldn't recommend it. Wire the Stebel per the instructions. It comes with a relay and all you need to do is use the stock horn leads on the control side (not the load side!) of the relay. Here's A Page on my web site that shows how I did mine.

Where did you attach the hose clamp to the horn?

I installed a Napa Flamm horn on my 650, ($17 vs $40). I have also installed 35 watt PIAA lights on my SW-Motech crash bars, so.......... I cut the relay off of the PIAA lights and purchased two more automotive relays, (4 prong) from Radioshack. These two "new" relays I am going to use on the PIAA lights. I want to be able to turn the lights on and off independantly from each other. That frees up the original PIAA relay to be used with the horn.

The horn comes with a piece of flat stock that can be bolted to a stud on the backside of the horn. The opposite end has a 1/4:20 hole drilled in it. I removed the aft allen screw that holds on the rear part of the left fairing and shoved a piece of cardboard between the fairing and the frame to hold the fairing out. I used a propane torch to heat up the end of a rat tail file, (I bent the handle at 90 degrees), and when it was red hot, I melted a hole in the side of the plastic radiator shroud behind the radiator on the left side and bolted it with a 1/4:20 stainless steel bolt and Nylock nut.

The horn hangs down "inside" of the crash bars and right behind the left PIAA light. The switch is a Radioshack momentary button that is mounted inside the left hand guard at a location that I can "stab" with my left pointer finger.

Both the stock horn and Flamm horn work on my bike. The Flamm horn is connected directly to my Blue Seas fuse block mounted underneath my seat. I decided to wire the horn "hot". I can use it when the key is NOT in the ignition.

This setup should work for the Stebel horn as well.
