For those with the Bestem Box

I got my 929 and am very happy with it...with the exception of the fact that you have to have the key to latch and un-latch it. It would be nice to be able to latch it without locking it. Anyone "customize" their Bestem to make a different latch?

I'm afraid of trying to modify it-- a bit flimsy. I saw one guy on here use a mini bungee cord.

I have nothing for you, but I'm damn glad to see that they are still out there. Mine's lasted 4 years and I hope there will be another one after it finally gives up. Best value accessory on my bike.

Givi is the same way. I was able to rekey the bags so all 3 use the same key.

Nope not here. I've just always dealt with it. My top box rarely ever comes off any ways. I use it almost all the time. When commuting I have a backpack that fits almost perfect in it.

I doubt mine will ever come off, but you need the key just to open the dang thing.

Go to Amazon and search keyless cam lock or thumb-turn cam lock. One of those might work after you check measurements.

Check these out. http://www.illinoislock.com/cam-lock...FUyk4AodDHEAXw

Well not exactly "customized" but very functional:

thread here When I'm riding I don't lock it and it is still latched. When I park it I lock it. The mini-bungie does not get in the way of locking it nor does it have to be removed. It is my KLR solution to my vStrom problem!

Just leave the key in if you are not afraid of theft... Does not make sense to leave it unlocked to me. I do not want openable containers while riding with all the bumps and commotion we encounter. Snug and secure is more my mantra.

This post got me curious, so I ordered one of these off of Amazon to try it.

Illinois Lock Company :: CK2113, CK3113, CK4113

I got the ck2113, which is 5/8 long. The Bestem lock was 7/8 long, but I think I can make this shorter one work. It was less than $7 before shipping, but I ordered some other stuff too to make the shipping not as high proportionally. I'll post a pic once it's in.
