Wrecked front Rim !

07 Wee in Gray, 1500 km and loving it, on return from Gold River BC, last week a logging truck travelling in opposite direction ,threw a pineapple sized rock across my bow ! doing 100kmPH, no time to avoid - Oh Sh1t...... managed to stay on (just) phew
Damage one shot front rim and tyre, see pics, local rim shop in Vancouver says the whole rim is twisted out of alignment, one of the spoke is twisted and rim dented as u can see.
Bad news, bike out of action, Suzuki Canada quoted $693 Can for the rim, plus getting a new tire !!!
Anybody got ideas for cheaper replacement rim ?

photo 4.jpg shows just how 'flattened' the rim was

The only advice I have for you is to keep watching EBay for a front rim.

You might consider getting it straightened. I had 4 rims off my 1988 BMW 325 straightened for less than the cost of 1 new one. I did a quick Google search and there are companies who specialize in straightening motorcycle rims. I'm not sure about availability in Canada but it might still be worth checking out.

Good luck!

I've had wheels straightened & repaired by www.mcwheel.com

a front wheel that was bend in 4 places, and a rear wheel that had a gash, so it needed welding and straightening

I had a dent in mine I pounded it out with a sledge hammer. Check Onida Suzuki for on-line parts. The front rim is the same on DL1000 and 650, I have a 650 rim on my 1000.

Rim Repair

Thanks for the input guys, I did send my wheel to a specialist Rim shop
http://www.greensautomotive.com/
the put on a gig and said its not the dent etc but one of the spokes is too badly twisted to repair , drawing a blank on Ebay (very little worth having for the VStrom at all)
Ive found a company in Florida selling the front rim for $383 - cycle-parts.com + shipping and taxes, so Ive ordered it up.

Sorry to hear about not being able to straighten it but am glad you found one for less than list. It makes the sting a little less painful.

Mine is worse, Hope it can be fixed.

I bent mine on a cattle grate/pass in Wyoming on Sunday. Drove around in Black Hills one more day and then flew home yesterday. Both sides smashed back.

RandyO, I am assuming MCWheels did right by you so can recommend?

Three rims in one weekend, has anyone else had theirs repaired?

Try EBAY before you get one from a local dealer or bone yard.
