Factory luggage on DL-650

Does anyone here have the new style side-case luggage? I want to know how wide the bike is with them on.

I'm also interested to know if the oem mounts will accept a Givi mounting plate for a top box.

Has anyone seen good pictures of the oem setup anywhere?

My factory racks and cases are in storage so can't comment on the width. I swapped the whole factory rack system out for givi side racks and an AdvMotostuff adjustable top rack for the Givi top case. The factory side racks bolt to the factory top rack, so you can run the factory top case by itself, but you have to have the top rack on to use the factory side racks. And the factory top rack will not accept a Givi case. I know that the factory top rack did not accept the AdvMotostuff Givi rack, but did not try it with Givi's rack.

Adversely, Givi side and top racks are independent of each other so you can have one or the other or both.

I don't know how big a deal this is to you, but I didn't like having a ton of keys with me, with the Givi's you are able to re-key the whole set to one key. Seems silly saying it out loud but that was a factor in my decision. Other than the fact they were color matched, I didn't like the looks of the factory cases either.

I'm a former owner of E41 side cases and they're too wide for my liking, but I do like the 52 litre top box.

I'm guessing that the OEM top rack uses the two mounting points that the standard rack uses.

Unless the 07 OEM luggage has changed again, it's a three piece system. Suzuki in their wisdom  went with proprietary mounts. Do yourself a favour, but either the SW Motech racks or the Givi racks & Givi luggage. It's be cheaper and if you decide the Strom isn't to your liking, the luggage (not the racks) will fit any bike that uses standard Givi mounts.

Uhhh, I just bought my second Strom, NW...and money isn't the deciding factor for side cases. I'd buy the Jesse cases if there were fewer horror stories about fit. I understand that the DL650A has a longer swing arm than previous models, this according to Roger at Caibou Cases. Caribou is modifying their mounting rack to accommodate this. New parts available early June.

I don't like the SW Motech racks because the quarter-turn retaining screws are wiggly. I replaced the SW Motech top plate with the Givi plate because of this.

I tried a Givi side case setup on the first Strom. I don't like the Givi luggage because it's either too wide or too small, depending on what you get, but I do like the 52 litre top box. I dunno about the new style Givi cases yet.

I haven't yet ruled out the oem side cases either. What I'm trying to do in this thread is verify if you can mount a Givi topbox to the setup without too much modification.

I too am on my second Strom (another Wee) and I understand that many don't like how "wide" the Givi luggage makes the bike. Lane splitting isn't legal here in Canada & since I live on my bike in a fairly large city (smaller than Toronto however) I want lockable secure storage. Givi happens to be waterproof and pretty durable and it works for me. I didn't purchase the SW racks as I never take the sidecases off and have only ridden the bike without the topcase when I travelled to Kentucky in 05. I like the Caribou cases and the other "adventure" luggage, but they don't have the capacity I'm lQQking for.

I do like the new PL35's (I think that's what they are called) available for the Grand Strom
