Scary experience

I had one of my worst experiences on the ride in this morning. I got on 490 (expressway) and was traveling around 70 in the left lane when I felt something on my face. I then saw a small tiny bug buzzing around inside my helmet. It then landed on my face on the right side. Imagine the tickle feeling of it walking around on your face and your unable to touch it. Then the little bastard decided that it wanted to walk up my face and go into my eye. I felt it the whole time getting closer and closer and i couldn't get to it. I shook my head, and lifted my visor up a notch to blow it off, but it kept coming. Finally I felt it on my eye lashes just be fore it went into my eye. Tears were streaming down my face and I was blinking furiously. No exits in site and doing 65 mph, I had to just deal with it. All this happened in about 1 minute. Anyway I finally got off my exit a minute later and pulled up to a stop light ripped open my visor and jammed my glove in to wipe it out. Damn that sucked. It is now 2 hours later and my right eye is still sore.

Count your blessing that it was only a bug, not a bee as my riding partner had inside his helmet one summer many years ago.

Glad you're OK!

yeh when i was 17 I got a wasp in my helmet that proceeded to to sting my cheek several times. I undid my strap and tried to pull my helmet up far enough the blow it out but the wind grabbed it and it went through the windshield of the car behind me. Luckily the guy was a biker also and after seeing my face said he would turn it into his insurance as a big bird hit it. Luckily noone was hurt.

Last year I was riding my cruiser down main street when i felt something crawling up my left sleeve (I was wearing a full jacket and a shirt).

I tried to shake it off but must've pissed him off and the bastard stung me. Needless to say I pulled over like I was on fire and smacked it hard against my arm with my right hand. I then crazily stripped off my jacket and shirt tossing them to the ground. A couple of onookers almost called police.

It turns out it was a bee that walked up to my elbow. I decided not to go to the hospital since Ive been stung before by bees but I was swollen for 4 days.

I know of one guy getting stung on his genitals by a bee. Ouch...

Years ago I'm on a two lane road flat out on my '73 Honda SL-100 & felt an itch on top of my head. Ignored it but it began to move toward the back of my head so I hit the brakes, pulled over & yanked the 3/4 helmet off to find a mashed up wasp crawling around inside. Knocked it out. Didn't get stung. 34 years later I STILL check my helmet before putting it on.

Once, when I lived in Hawaii, I put on my helmet after it had been on the ground at my feet for a few minutes. When I donned my lid, I soon felt something crawling... I snatched off my helmet to find an 8" centipede crawling about. Luckily it didn't sting me (because they pack a punch, as I found out for myself about a year later when one got me on the hand)!

Went thru a honeybee swarm a few years ago with my wife. She almost puked! There were literally hundreds of dead bees in my radiator and I couldn't see thru my windshield. Thank God I was in a truck.

In my younger days riding in Wisconsin I was smacked on the cheek by a bird while traveling at highway speeds. Whole side of my face went numb. Couldn't find the bird.

Once while riding through west Texas on I-10, I got off the interstate and crossed under one of those single lane tunnels under the road to take a picture of some of the mountains in the distance as the sun was setting. I noticed it smelled kinda bad in the tunnel but didn't think much of it. Then as I go back through the tunnel to get back on the interstate, the cieling started to move, and much to my surprise, several dozen bats woke up and swarmed all around me.

After tucking under the screen and blasting out of the rapidly filling tunnel, I couldn't help but laugh. "We can't stop here! This is bat country!"
