I replaced my OE bulbs with Phillips vision plus when I first purchased my 6Fiddy. Never felt the need for any additional lighting in front. Also dumped the OE 2 candlepower blinkers and replaced them with 21w halogens.

I put HID's in place of the stock bulbs. Took it out soon after. 1 Ballast burned out or something. Damn Chinese imports! I had alot of cars flash me, then I high beamed them and they weren't too happy about that. The light position is so high. It hits cages right in their eyes. Suckers.

The reflector design of the Strom's headlights is absolutely horrible for true HID's. You'll blind the ever living shit out of everyone coming the other way. If you really want to add HID's, the best way to do it would be to retrofit in a set of HID projectors into the stock headlights. This is what I did on my Mazda6, and the results are fantastic.

Any and all info you might need on HIDs can be found on www.hidplanet.com

Home Depot. . . .

Had to manufacture my own connections after stripping all the OE stuff out of the housings. . .

Compared to the OE Non-reflectors these babies have some reflective area. I thought there might be "issues" with vibration but now with more than 25K on the "mod" and ZERO failures I figure it's a non-issue.

Amp Draw?

what was/is the wattage of the OEM bulb? i know that the turn signal is an intermittant circuit, but i'm worried about torching the flasher module... as well as frying the wires...

any thoughts? any one?

Shortly after getting the bike, while riding with friends - they asked "are you using your turnsignals? We don't see anything." They are pathetic - invisible in daytime.

I adapted and installed halogens - you can't miss them now. No heat problems, no wiring problems, no problems.

Search this site for installation tips and techniques (maybe 2-3 years ago) if you like.

As "Compared To What" said, he has 25k on the HID's and hasn't had a problem. The V-Strom has about 100 watts extra to play with (wee strom a little less), so 21 watts shouldn't be a problem. The stock bulb is 10 watts. I've had HID running lights on my DL1000 for over a year (55watts each), and have not experienced any problems yet. I try not to run the lights for extended periods because I know that I'm pushing the max, but I'm paranoid about deers after hitting one in California. I'd rather see a deer than worry about a burned wire.
