I could not find a V-Strom rear luggage rack extension that was wide enough for my 24-inch long duffle bag. Someone on the forum makes one, but he did not have any right now, and wants $95. I needed one NOW, so I made my own. I purchased a 12 x 18 inch bamboo cutting board from Walmart. It came in a two-pack with a smaller bamboo cutting board for a total of $17.99. They also had other ones in different sizes, but this one seemed like the best deal. Take your pick.
I used 4 D-rings I had laying around and some 1-inch wide nylon or polypro webbing. Using a soldering iron, I melted a hole in the webbing after wrapping it around the D-ring. I purchased 5 stainless steel 6mm x 40mm flat head socket bolts from the local ACE hardware. Drilled holes in the cutting board to match the V-Strom rack, put the bolts through them and through the hole in the webbing, and I was in business. Hopefully the pictures clear up any confusion. If not, let me know.
