Vstrom DL1000 with Givi V35 panniers. Handing issue.

I have a Vstrom DL1000 and have just fitted Givi G35 panniers onto a genuine Givi rack. I also have a Givi top box. I have also just fitted a new Bridgestone Trail Wing rear tyre to match the one on front. I am running the rear tyre at 40PSI and the front at 36 PSI, both filled with nitrogen.

When it is windy, the bike is 'wallowing' at any speed over 100 kph. Similar feeling to a flat tyre. Gets to the dangerous stage at 140 kph (over taking). No problem when cornering, just straight line riding.

I am riding one-up, with clothing in the panniers... So not much weight.

Any ideas on how to remedy this wold be appreciated.

Thank you.

Are your cases loaded when this happens? Keeping weight low and forward can help.

Also, there is believed to be an aerodynamic lift issue with 'Stroms which can be remedied by increasing rear preload and lowering the triple tree on the forks by 10-15 mm so that the rear end doesn't sag when loaded.

Fitting a fork brace can also help.

And last but not least, if you're going to be running in the 150 KPH range on a loaded bike, a steering stabilizer will prevent you from experiencing a tankslapper.

Other than that, wind is wind and can be dealt with by remaining loose and staying on the windward side of your lane.

Staying well behind trucks can help too, as the buffeting off them, especially in windy conditions can be rather unsettling.

Good luck.

Other than the normal issues of dealing with windy days [applicable to most bikes], my Givi cases never gave me an issue.

I've travelled at speeds up to 180 kph on my Wee while overtaking B Double trucks [semi trailer rig that has 2x 40' trailers attached and travelling at speeds up to 100 kph], with only the normal wind issues that make overtaking scary.

I now have Happy Trails alloy boxes, the biggest thing I notice about the is the fuel consumption if I travel constantly at over 120 kph.
