Hello folks, I just got my 2012 and came from Kuri grips on my cruiser and hate the tiny Japanese grips. I have a large to x-large hand and I need something inexpensive but something that is secure and holds up well to lots of use. Please let me know what you do and use.......Thanks........Mike
The $11 Superbike grips at Cycle Gear and everywhere online seem to do just fine for me when I bother replacing the OEMs. I find the right pair of gloves make the grips more or less immaterial.
A lot of Troopers use grip Puppies over the original grips. They stand up well to(Mine have been on for 65K). My wrist couldn't handle the to small size either.
I have had arthritis for over 30 years now and small grips don't work well for me.
I had "HotGrips" heated grips on my 2006. They are thicker than stock grips and quite comfy plus provide heart. That helped, but found a throttle rocker the single best thing to help. I don't have to grip all that hard with the throttle rocker and it dramatically reduces fatigue.
I don't recall the brand but I have some foam grip covers on mine. Very simple to install (spray inside with hairspray, slide on, let dry. They seem to be about the size of cruiser grips and also still work well with the heated grips I have on there. If you don't like them or they get torn they come off easy.
I've always wanted to try the grip puppies, the small grip diameter over time cramps my hand, not holding on for dear life either. The throttle rocker helps my right hand though. I do want to get heated grips, which don't appear to work well with grip puppies.
I know a common mod on FJRs (used to have one) and other ST bikes is to put the BMW grips on there. The shape of the BMW grips are VERY comfortable. Would that work on the Strom? I'm not sure on the lengths of the grips and if it would stick out or anything....it's something that has popped into my head and I'm considering it if it'd fit.
I did initially say + 4 for Grip Puppies
However, I've recently cut them off -- they were just to thick in diameter with winter gloves.
May try bicycle handlebar tape to achieve a compromise in diameter.
ProGrip 714's on every motorcycle I've owned since 95. They're a bit larger in diameter, quell vibration, etc. Nice that they have safety wire grooves to if that's your choice.
