Bad gas or what?

Filled up my tank a couple days ago and since then both days after work my bike would not take gas. Started and idled fine but once I hit the throttle it would continuously shut off, after about 30 minutes I was able to drive off without a problem. I'm thinking bad gas, what do u think?

Such a problem can be heat related. Was the bike in the sun or was the ambient air hot? Heat related issues can cause fuel vapor flooding. Opening the throttle to let in more air when starting can clear that. No issues 30 minutes later means the fuel was not bad.

Yes, it was sitting in the sun for half the day. Also forgot to mention I used 89 octane for the 1st time. Would that be the problem? I did lay on the throttle when I fired the bike up and that may have helped but still took at least a half hour to clear it out.

The octane level is not a problem other than a waste of money.

Try putting some HEET gasoline drier into the gas tank (follow the label proportions) or another gas additive that says that it removes water from the gas.

None of these remove water. They emulsify the water so it'll pass through the engine. If water in the gas is your problem, these'll fix it. It does sound like you got a tank of gas from a gas station that either has a lot of condensation in the tank or a cracked pipe leading to the tank. The 89 doesn't sell as well as the 87 or 91 (or higher) so the condensation might be the problem.

Learned from a tanker driver the other day that at many stations ( this was Chevron ), the 89 or mid grade is blended " at the pump ", drawing from the 87 and 91 tanks.

Not sure if this is typical or if some stations actually have 3 separate tanks.

mine has done the same thing after sitting in the sun after fillup. just opened the gas cap, closed it up. turned ignition on and off a couple of times and she cranked right up.
