This story is not for the faint of heart. Been riding for about 10 years, and got about 80,000 miles on various bikes. Went down for the first time yesterday. It was horrible, i'm lucky to be alive. Came home from work, pulled in the garage, and went down. Hahahahahahaha, I kid you not. I was doing about 5 mph, and the front tire (it's a little worn) lowsided me as I was pulling in the garage. I guess it's time for a new front tire. Anyways, I de-assed off the seat in one swift motion. I looked like the neighborhood kids when they ride their bikes into the yard and hop off and throw their bike down in one swift motion, and then walk in the house. Hahahahahaha, I actually started laughing.
Total damage, 1 broken clutch lever. :hurray: The crash bars and Givi's saved her. So, anyone got a spare clutch lever for an 05 dl1000? Or, what other bikes will cross reference with the 05 dl1000. The cheapest I could find on ebay was 18 bucks for a cheapo China lever.

Went through a couple of clutch levers on gravel naps. Cheepo China levers worked fine. Finally switched to Bark Busters for those off pavement jaunts. :yesnod:
Yup those cheepo chinese levers work just fine. It's a lever for crying out loud. A formed piece of aluminum that pulls a cable or pushes a piston. Why do they cost so much?
Agreed, i'm a cheap bastage. Probably the cheapest guy I know. I'm strongly considering either:
A: Duct taping the broken end to the stump of a lever.
B: JB welding the broken end to the stump.
C: Grind down the ends of the stump, and make a shorty lever.
What do you guys think? Keep in mind, I need to buy a new front tire as well. :green_lol:
I bought some of those cheapo levers. The clutch lever wasn't shaped correctly and caused my clutch to slip. I emailed the company and they said they were going to send a replacement. Nothing ever arrived and they don't answer emails anymore. Buyer beware.
I like the looks of these ones. The ad claims they are unbreakable;
It seems almost unbelievable, but it doesn't take watching too many youtube videos to realize that anything is possible. Those videos also show that I've been pretty damn lucky over the years.
My own garage story is kind of embarassing. I don't have a garage door opener and I used to drive up to my garage door at an angle, lean over while still on the bike, pull it open, and then drive in. One day I was in a hurry and I pulled the door up a little too hard and when I drove in, the garage door had bounced at the top and was coming back down. The door slammed into my helmet and knocked me back. This was on a 1981 GS1100 and I was twisting the throttle when it hit me. Fortunately my garage was clean at the time and I had some room to get my senses, I managed to hit my kill switch, and come to a very awkward stop without falling. I ruined my helmet, and my pride. Thankfully no one saw me. I would like a video of it though.
Real hand guards (with metal in them), Teflon tape on the lever clamps, and shortening the levers with a hacksaw does wonders for saving the clutch & brake levers in a fall.
