Bathroom scale bike weights

Anybody actually weigh their Wee or Vee on a bathroom scale? It's easy to do; just roll each wheel onto the scale and add the numbers. It helps to have someone reading the scale for you.

Here's what I got for my bone stock (except for a Windstrom windshield) 2008 DL-650 with 3 bars showing on the fuel gauge:
Front: 212 lbs.
Rear: 225 lbs.
Total: 437 lbs.

Re-weighed after leveling opposite wheel and got 448 lbs.

Lighter than I thought! Add hard luggage and racks, centerstand and skidplate and I expect you will be close to 500 lbs for a Wee.

I'd love to see some other examples here. Please indicate year, amount of fuel, and accessories installed. Thanks!

That's a good way to do it, just be sure (and you may have already done so) that you level the bike each time, by putting something under the other wheel which is not on the scale. If not, the indicated weights will be low, as the center of gravity will shift towards the low end of the bike slightly.

I haven't done the Wee, but I weighed the Connie at the local dump scale, drive on, drive off. Don't be surprised if you find your bike 5 - 10% heavier than you think. Farkles and such add up quickly.

Wash while you have it in there.

I found that the scales would not read accurately with just the tire in the center of the scale. I put a piece of 3/4" plywood on the scale to spread the load and it seemed a whole lot closer to the weight I was expecting.

Try standing normally on your bathroom scale and reading the weight, then put one foot in the center and try to stand on the ball of your foot. Mine reads a LOT less that way.

I was lucky and went to a recycling location with a public scale and found my bike fully fueled with the top box on and full of junk weighed 510 pounds.
At a unmanned public scale in Oregon I found that the bike and all my camping gear and me weighed 750 pounds. I gotta lose some weight!

Thanks for that tip. I did NOT do it that way originally, so I just re-weighed the bike after leveling the other wheel to the same height as the bathroom scale. It picked up 11 more pounds, from 437 lbs. without leveling to 448 lbs. with leveling. I got a light one!

Are you sure your scale is well calibrated?
NO, I am not SURE. However, I have no reason to doubt it. It's an electronic scale; I calibrate it to zero before starting. When I stand on it, it gives an accurate reading of my weight. I have weighed objects where I know the exact weight and it gives me an accurate reading within a pound or two. I recently weighed 170 lbs. of scrap brass and when I took it to a scrap metal dealer, his scale agreed with the reading I got on my scale within 2 pounds.

SO... I guess I WOULD say it's "well calibrated".

If I could get some others to weigh a STOCK 2008 Wee and they got similar readings, I'd feel more confident. We can adjust the weight for different gas levels in the tank; at about 6 lbs. per gallon.

OK I have both wheels on the scales, then balanced the gas tank and fairing pieces on top of that, but I'm going to need help getting the frame and engine up the stairs...

I tried weighing mine but my wife got all pissed off.. she was in the shower and wasn't impressed to see my bike sitting in the bathroom when she got out. Looks like I wont be parking anything in her garage anytime soon...
