There's an old post about these mirrors from 2008, but I thought a reminder was in order since I found out about these mirrors only through trial and error replacement.
The stock mirrors make the wind buffeting worse and are pointlessly tall. Get a pair Bikemaster Supersport mirrors -- Bing 'em or do a search on Motorcycle Superstore's website item 45467 -- with Bikemaster part numbers 601122 and 601123 for left and right versions. You will still need mirror extenders.
Optically, these mirrors are extremely high quality -- perfect wide rear view -- and compared to the originals they are far superior aerodynamically. Best of all, they're an amazing $12 apiece.
BKT, they're very close to the same outward "reach" and height, but the mirror part isn't as tall, and of course they far more aerodynamic, as noted. On the other hand they don't need to be as tall since you can see all you need to. They're constructed with a slight convexity to provide a wide angle view, but it's done so well that there's is no distortion anywhere. In fact the view looks so "normal" that it took me a while to accept the fact that I was getting a wide angle view. I can't recommend them highly enough over the originals, which are OK but disturb the airflow tremendously, adding to the buffeting. After riding with the Bikemasters a few thousand miles I ordered another pair just in case I ruined the first pair in a tipover. By the way, if you need mirror extenders using your stock mirrors(and who doesn't?), then you'll need them with these. When you mount them, rotate the stems as far forward as you can, which will in turn necessitate folding the actual mirror part back as much as possible to get the correct view, which will in turn make the air flow past them with a bit less turbulence, which is comparatively small to begin with. But at 50+ miles an hour anything that smoothes out the air flow on this bike is a good thing.
