How to protect boot shift area

Not sure where to post as sort of weird one; I have some boots that are leather, waterproof lined and very comfortable with nice gel sole. All beat up I noticed the other day that there actually is a hole where the shifter is because it is right where the steel toe ends - the steel cut through where shifter wear is - rest is scuffed up from use but fine.

I like these boots so very much because of comfort (foot problems) and features that I want to get another pair but am trying to come up with ways to add protection to that shifter area. Would gluing some sort of leather patch or other material even work? I had another pair with extra leather toe but will not work with my foot problems..

Any ideas?

Any competent bootsmith?(don't recall the proper term) can fix a leather wear piece to the top of your new or existing boot to take the wear from using the shifter.

The low cost repair is to mask off the repair area and apply Shoo Goo. I have repaired many a pair of steel toed boots with it when the steel toe wears through (OSHA does not count a boot as a steel toe in areas where they are required once the steel shoes through the leather).

Cobbler, cobbler, mend my shoe.
Get it done by half past two.
Half past two is way too late!
Get it done by half past eight.
