With the bike in winter storage since October 2012 I've been dying for spring to arrive so I can get it back out on the road. Today was the day, a month later than last year. It's been a really cold spring so far here in Norway! I was obviously not the only one that took the bike back out this fine Saturday, as motorcycles were everywhere... Getting back in the saddle and pulling out of the garage was like meeting with an old friend again. Love my K6 Wee! Fantastic allround bike, and soooo liberating to be back in the saddle again after being stuck in the cage for so many months.

The winter was spent tinkering with a few mods and purchasing new gear, and today I got to see how they worked out:

Daytona Heated Grips: Sourced from Germany during the winter for cheap, they worked great. Only +5 Celsius in the shade today. No problems with thin summer gloves, OEM hand guards and the heat on!

HyperPro rear spring: Mounted on the stock shock, and seemed surprisingly good. I found the stock setup terrible after swapping springs up front last year, and decided to improve the rear on a budget. Pleasantly surprised by this. The ride is firmer now, but not too firm. And it'll probably be enough to keep us from bottoming out when the wife comes along for a ride. Set preload at around the halfway mark, and increased rebound a bit from the stock setup. Much improved! And will probably be even better when I properly set SAG.

AGV AX-8 Dual Evo helmet: My first "adventure helmet", replacing my HJC IS-16 that I was very happy with. It doesn't vent quite as we'll as the HJC, but is lighter and about the same in comfort. There was very little lift from the beak, but a rumbling booming noise bothered me. Even when wearing earplugs. I adjusted the windshield lower (Madstad to the rescue), and presto... The sound was gone, but a bit more wind hit me in the chest and shoulders. No problem though. The biggest plus of this helmet was the view. Huge viewport compared to the HJC, and I really liked it. And the beak actually worked for the low afternoon sun, so I didn't miss the integrated sun visor in my HJC much.

Gafler sintered brake pads: Up front, replacing the OEM pads that probably have been on the bike since new. They're not bedded in yet, so it's a bit early to give a verdict on these. But they do stop the bike. Grips nicely for a rapid deceleration, but still very easy to modulate. I have an organic set for the rear that I'll also pop on soon.

Now I'm just waiting for the Peaklife GPS and a mount from Rick, and I'm all set for a great season of riding! Must say I'm quite envious for those of you who can ride all year...

Thanks for the report. Did you do anything else to the front other than the spring change?

Nope. Just Sonic springs and new fork oil up front. It was a massive improvement, and made the rear end stand out as very undersprung! This winters mod to the rear makes it an ok match. Of course a new shock would be better, but there's $ involved. I'll ride it like this for a year or two, until the stock shock craps out and probably get a Progressive Suspension, Wilbers or HyperPro one. If I don't change bike before that happens... New Glee perhaps, and that Tiger 800 is looking mighty good too :)
