Put on the new DID chain with 520 conversion sprockets. Put the bike on the center stand and ran through the gears and the chain whines at the front sprocket. Loosened the tension a little to about 20-25 up and down slack mid way. Chain whines less in 1-2 gear but still whines in the rest.
I have never installed a new chain. It is properly lubed. But is it possible te front sprocket is installed wrong? Only one way to install I thought. Anywho, council would be much Appriciated! Thank you
Does new the front sproket have a rubber damping seal around the area below the teeth? I believe the OEMs have and that's what helps keep chain noise down...
The spec for chain slack in the manual is given with the bike on the side stand, not the center stand. 20 to 25 mm is way too tight on the center stand.
First, you need to include units (and preferably decimals) in your measurments to get appropriate responses. "20-25" *something* of slack, and then 3 inches? 3 inches is WAY too much slack, 20-25mm is WAY too little. Also, why did you put on a 520 conversion? There is no noticeable benefit to running a 520 chain/sprocket combo on something that was not designed for it.
So the chain is 2" slack full up to down. Still whines. But this is on the center stand with no traction. Does chain noise differ from actually riding from testing on a stand?
Ps... I can't ride just yet, still freezing in AK ?
