I have managed to ride to work two days in a row now, it has gone from winter to summer in Virginia with no spring. (I'm not complaining) My safety inspection is due this month, and the military base I work on has a Firestone next door so I parked it in front of their building so they could inspect it while I'm at work. A while back, I made a PVC storage tube where I keep stuff that I hope I never use like jumper cables, tire kit, etc. The original cap I had on it was plastic and hard to twist off without pliers, which scratched the paint on the cap. The other day I found a brass cap at Home Depot and it was a lot easier to grip and remove. Anyway, when I was walking across the parking lot today to get some lunch, the cap was gone! I have been riding for years, parked my bikes in DC, at every Walmart and Home Depot within 500 miles, crappy motels, in the woods, bike rallys, you name it. I have never once had anyone screw with any of my bikes, ever. Granted it was just an $11 cap, but still, who does that? :furious: Guess I should have painted it black. OK, rant over.

Nope, all the stuff was still inside. I guess there's a big black market these days for brass clean-out caps..

Not directly related, but I moved to an apartment building back in November and have been parking my bike in the underground parking since then. I guess I should have a cover to keep dust off it, and, just as importantly, keep kids and sticky fingers off it.

Not a big deal, but I have a cheap handlebar GPS mount for Garmin GPSes on my bike. Came out to take my bike for a ride a couple of weeks ago and notice that the bottom part of the clip part of the mount is broken off. Not sure exactly what happened to it, except that I'm sure I didn't do it. I just popped it off the ball and replaced it with mount part off a car suction-cup mount I have.

Shit happens, I guess.

Your bad! What the other fellers said about skallywags and bubbas stealing anything brass, bronze or copper.
The really dumb ones get dead cutting live wires. Serves them right. Even historic plaques are fair game for the thieves.
It's the economy.....
I put a plastic cap on mine and used a kitchen pull for a handle and put a hasp and lock on the bugger.

To the OP. You're a more trusting soul than me. Like you I have the plastic one painted black which has some paint gone from using plyers to get it off. I use an old cable lock which locks it up when I'm not in there. Granted, it won't deter someone who really wants to get into it but doesn't make is "easy" so most just walk by.

Heck, on overnight trips I also put locks on both wheels...:beatnik:

VA Apartments

Only time I have ever had a problem is having a couple bike covers stolen overnight from my bike in an apartment parking lot. Oh, and someone either leaned against my bike or purposely pushed it over at a softball tourney in Michigan. Damage to the break lever was all, so it seems they must have tried to catch it or something. Accidents happen...

My guess if it was your brake lever is they were sitting on it and it got away from them. Probably a pic of it on someones phone somewhere.

We burnt a an old house on a farm we have. There was some metal left there we were gonna scrap when we had time. You guessed it. It didn't take long for thieves to come clean it up for us. On the positive side they did a nice job hauling it all of. LOL

I can't imagine a brass piece was cheap. At least they didn't take the other stuff. Who knows could have been an employee of the place you took it. Quick cask for some lowlife unfortunately.
