New scooter

I have a deposit on this 09 and am scheduled to fly up and get it this weekend. 12,000 miles with ABS and a lot of farkles. It has a gel seat and I'm curious about that, since I have never sat on one. Are they a significant improvement over stock?

Seats are totally dependant upon the person. Better for some. Worse for others. You'll just have to wait and see.

'08 FJR1300AE - Miss Chievous.

I've owned only Beemers over the past 40 years, so I don't know much about the V. Dumb question #1. Should I take my magnetic tank bag for the trip home? Some beemers have an aluminum tank cover so a magnetic won't work.

Morrie, the center part of the fuel tank that shows is metal while the side panels are plastic. I've used a magnetic tank bag before on a Vee.

I've also had a gel seat which was a slight improvement over stock, but not life altering.

Congrats on the new ride!

Tank bag

Morrie, the tank bag should work. If the gel seat doesnt work, I have an all leather Corbin that you can try. Im going to sell it as soon as my Russell comes in, about 2 or 3 weeks. When you come u for th C to C you can give it a try. I only live about 2 miles from the starting Hotel. Costs nothing to try it. if it helps fine if not so be it. Im also back on the Strom the kymco is gone. Curt

Curt,

That sounds great. I may very well be in the market for a seat upgrade.

I'm off in the morning pulling a trailer behind a the oldest of my two Miatas and the only one with a trailer hitch, but no air and a malfunctioning idle-control valve. But what the Hell. It's either sit home and watch TV or go get the bike and hope the Miata will get me and it home. I had planned to fly up and ride it back, until I talked with Georgia DMV. Fagheddabouddit! This bunch is hostility personified and no help at all. Georgia does not issue transit passes as some states do and it's a felony to put an unregistered plate on a vehicle.

I'm kind of glad now that I don't plan to ride it home because it has only the stock shield. (The aftermarket one in the pic has been discarded because of scratches.) I figure a seat and a windshield may be all I need to round out the farkles on this one. I read many of the horror stories on the buffeting thread last night. I have been spoiled because it was silky smooth behind the Aeroflow shield on my Beemer. I'm intrigued by the Cal Sci shield, but know first hand that the guys who are building vortex generators to handle the air from below are on the right track. I eliminated all buffeting when I put a set on my Beemer.

Al,

I can't say for sure, because I left the bike in Atlanta with a friend who will trailer it here. It should be here on Wednesday but I'm not certain at this writing.

Al,

Aw Hell, put me down. I know the bike will be here. if I can figure out how to make the transition from a succession of big lumbering Beemers.

I was able to book rooms at both hotels so I guess it's fate.
